Problem

This project targets at the phenomenon of social atomization in the modern society. Karl Marx has theorized four type of alienations followed by the rise of capitalism two hundred years ago.The rapid change of production mode in the past hundreds years brought the exponential boost of productivity, while at the same time it inevitably influences the interpersonal relationship.

Nowadays, it's common to see that people live elsewhere even though they are physically around other people, like being with their phones. The tendency of social dissociation and disconnection is referred to as “social atomization”. Atomization will affect the communication between people about the the ability to love and connect and influence the society negatively as a whole. The popularity of atomization in modern society makes me wonder, is this trend inevitable?

Goals

1. Understand the problem of social atomization and analyze the different factors behind this phenomenon
2. Collect everyone's opinions about the phenomenon of social atomization
3. Brainstorm the possible future world with extreme social atomization
4. Create designs that can criticize the problem of social atomization by showing its impact, thus inviting reflections upon this problem
